BABBLE GOONS

"We talk shit...always" was the motto that initially united HighDuke and Scribe as the Babble Goons. While living in different cities, the duo stockpiled beats, ideas and lyrics and finally sat down together in Canada's capital to work on their first full-length feature in early 2007. Over HighDuke's energetic production, the two approached topics ranging from deviant sexual behaviour and drug innuendo, to everyday life, politics and society as a whole, colouring them through a lens of their fantasies, desires and anxieties. During the recording of Critical Condition, the Goons discovered that HighDuke's larger than life personality and Scribe's manic ambition were a unique combination, respected by hip hop fans and artists alike. However, collaborations on several of the album's songs with the overly dramatic Earthquake Slick and DJ Grusm, who was already well known on Ottawa's DJ circuit, led to the realization that the Goons could become even goonier with these two characters. Now fortified, the three MC's and one DJ embarked on an aggressive promotion of Critical Condition, beginning with a successful CD release party and culminating with a spate of shows with local heroes, Flight Distance as well as underground legends Pumpkinhead and Pacewon.
